New Bus Services

7/3/2020

We have been contacted by the managers of Kirkby Lonsdale Coaches, who run the existing 552 service to notify us that they are providing Sedgwick with extra services.

The new 552 will continue on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Times of the journey towards Kendal are unchanged, but the return trip will run 30 minutes later to allow extra shopping time in Kendal.
Picture
To avoid diluting the usage to Kendal, the NEW services on Tuesday and Thursday will be to different destinations.
  • On Tuesdays, there will be a new 550 service, to Morecambe Market via Carnforth. It will start at Levens and run via Sedgwick, Hincaster and Arnside.
  • On Thursdays, they will start a new 551service, to Kirkby Lonsdale Market, starting in Arnside and running via Milnthorpe, Levens and Sedgwick.  The Kendal service 552, will be extended to also serve Morrisons and Sainsbury’s.
These changes will come into effect from the start of March - for further details see https://www.cumbria.gov.uk/buses/lakes/default.asp

Local history projects: the gunpowder industry and the Lancaster Canal

1/11/2019

Help wanted with Sedgwick history projects: the gunpowder industry and the Lancaster Canal

A National Lottery Heritage Funded project is researching the history of Sedgwick, including its relationship with the Lancaster Canal.

This work is being delivered by Canal & River Trust, as part of the Lancaster Canal Regeneration Partnership’s Kendal to Lancaster Towpath Trail project, which aims to improve access to heritage features along the canal towpath. Plans include updating information boards and creating an audio trail to inform visitors about the area's rich history, as well as involving university students in local history projects.

Carrie House (Project Officer): "The gunpowder industry, the aqueduct, and the canal are all important parts of Sedgwick's history. We want to hear residents' personal and family stories about these features; and are especially keen to speak to anyone who would like their story recorded for inclusion in a new audio trail. Contributions, including photographs, are also welcome by email. The information that we gather will inspire new signage and web pages, and will be archived for future generations."

Please contact Carrie if you would like to contribute: carrie.house@canalrivertrust.org.uk or 07786683759

Annual Parish Meeting 20/3/2019

5/3/2019

The Annual Parish Meeting, held each year, gives us the opportunity to explain what the Parish Council has achieved over the last year and gives residents the chance to have their say or ask questions about local issues. We use the meeting to learn about what residents think are the most important parish priorities and through this, the outcome of the meeting helps shape our agenda for the future.
There will also be a presentation on the history of the Lancaster-Kendal Canal

Success for our Grant Application!

10/1/2019

Picture
We are delighted to announce that we have been successful in our application to The Gateway Group for a grant to support the maintenance of the Canal Wildlife Area. We have received £500 which has covered the cost of our two-yearly safety and woodland management inspection made by our Woodland Management Consultants and the remedial work that it recommended. This has included the felling of several dead ash trees that have succumbed to ash die back disease. We are extremely grateful to Gateway for helping us to keep the Canal Wildlife Area in such good condition so it can continue to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
