Sedgwick Parish Council - Our Team

Sedgwick Parish Council has six elected members and we employ a Parish Clerk who makes sure the Council is run correctly.  If you have a general issue, question or concern, our Parish Clerk is the first point of contact for all Parish matters, but if you would like to speak to a councilor about a specific issue, our different areas of responsibility are shown below. We also work in close partnership with our Westmorland and Furness Councilor.

The Role of the Parish Clerk:
Under the section 112 of the Local Government Act (LGA) 1972, a Parish Council appoints an officer to ensure the “proper discharge of their functions”. This “proper officer” is very often referred to as “the clerk (to the council)”. And is responsible for the smooth running of the Council’s business. They are the first point of contact for the Council and all correspondence should be addressed to the Clerk.
Responsibility for implementing the decisions of the Council rests with the Clerk along with giving professional guidance where necessary whilst remaining neutral and discrete.  The Clerk is also responsible for financial management. The Clerk prepares, publicises agendas and signs notices and summonses with a list of business to be transacted and is required to attend meetings, take minutes and keep Council and other documents.
