A Parish Council is the first tier of local government at the closest level to their local community. It represents the people who live there, helping to deliver services to meet their needs and working to improve their quality of life. Sedgwick Parish Council is elected to represent the people of Sedgwick. We strive to make Sedgwick a great place to live; Our aim is to respond to the needs of our community, to be open, accessible and accountable in all we do and to abide by the rules which are defined in law to regulate us.
Our main responsibities are as follows:
To act as a link to higher tiers of local government (Westmorland and Furness Council) and the local Police Force
To manage and maintain council owned village amenities; the Millennium Field and Canal Wildlife Area and support the maintenance of village green areas such as Back Lane
To represent residents in matters such as the Planning Process and other consultations
To introduce and maintain initiatives to improve village life, such as the No Cold Calling Zone, provision of free broadband at the Village Hall, insuring the village defibrillator
To manage the Community Emergency Plan
To campaign on behalf of residents to bring about improvements, for example to highways
To communicate village issues and news through newsletters, notices and social media
To provide this community website to showcase village organisations and issues as well as the Parish Council
