Parish Woodland Contractor - recruitment

Sedgwick Parish Council are looking to recruit a Woodland Contractor .
It will be a 3-year agreement – with an annual budget up to £1,000.00
Sedgwick Parish Council own a 450m stretch of the former Lancaster Kendal Canal and maintain and manage it as a woodland wildlife area. The area includes a public footpath and woodland areas which require maintenance with good forestry practices.
Our Woodland Contractor must:
-have all appropriate and relevant knowledge, experience and qualifications in woodland management -be covered by public liability insurance to at least £5m have an understanding of the legalities of woodland management
-have good written and verbal communication skills be able to liaise with others eg neighbouring landowners, our woodland consultant
-ensure forest operations are carried out to professional health and safety standards in which workers and members of the public are protected
Main duties:
to inspect the woodland alongside council representative(s)
to offer advice about good forestry practise and identify any work required
to contribute to the Council’s Woodland Management Plan and Risk Assessment
to carry out ongoing maintenance tasks eg clearance of goat willow regrowth
to advise on and undertake one off tasks required to manage the woodland area eg felling and replanting
to maintain a good working relationship with local landowners eg when removing wood
to liaise with our Woodland Management Consultant If you are interested in this Post
